It can be hard to judge how far you have come as a photographer, as often you are too close to your work to make objective decisions. It’s easy to be hard on yourself, and beat yourself up for not progressing enough, when actually you have come a long way. With this in mind, our guest bloggers at Photoventure offer eight pointers to help you tell if you’re really progressing…
1. You look back at early work and cringe
If you are feeling down about your lack of progress, dig out some of your early ‘serious’ photography.
Chances are you will soon start to feel better about yourself as you laugh over the poor exposure, soft focus and crappy composition.
Only start worrying if your old stuff is better than what you are shooting now!

2. Other photographers ask your advice
If you are out with a friend and they are asking about settings and technique, or "how did you get that shot," it’s another good sign.
