Leica M in silver
Owing to popular demand, Leica has released a silver version of its Leica M Monochrom digital rangefinder with black-and-white image sensor.
“The design of the new silver chrome version is as discreet as the popular design of the black chrome version, with a uniform colouration and a minimum of details,” the company says.
Such sophisticated stylings don’t come cheap, however, and the new camera will set you back £6,200. It’s available in limited quantities at the end of May.
New DxO Optics Pro
DxO has released version 9.5 of its Optics Pro raw processing software. The new version enables users to import raw files from a Lightroom Catalog with one click.
Once edited in DxO, they can be returned to Lightroom as DNG format (previously, you’d have to convert the raw files to JPEG or TIFF).
The appeal for Lightroom users, apparently, is they’ll get access to DxO’s PRIME de-noising technology, Smart Lighting for highlight recovery and 165 new camera/lens combinations.
Until June 15, DXO Optics Pro 9 Standard Edition is on special offer at £79, while the Elite version is selling for £159 (usual price £239).

Speedy Nikon 1 S2 to be released in June
Nikon has introduced a new compact system camera to its 1 range. The S2 features a 14.2 million pixel CMOS sensor with no optical low-pass filter for better detail resolution. Like other Nikon 1 cameras, the S2 uses a one-inch type sensor.
This is combined with an Expeed 4A processing engine that allows the camera’s native sensitivity range of ISO 200-12800.
The new Nikon camera is fast too – it can shoot 10 raw format images at up to 20fps with continuous autofocus, or a whopping 60fps with focus fixed at the first frame.
System cameras have not always appealed to fans of action and sports photography, so it will be interesting to see if the new camera changes perceptions.
The Nikon 1 S2 price tag will be £379.99 (including kit lens) and will be available from June.
