Aimpoint PRO Patrol Rifle Optic Reviews

The AimPoint PRO offers a lot and that's why I purchased it for my AR. The PRO comes attached to a decent mount, has flip-up lens covers, offers several regular and nightvision brightness options, and has a claimed battery life of 3 years. In the box I received the optic, with flip-up caps and mount already attached, a battery, a battery replacement reminder sticker, an allen key for the mount, and a set of instruction booklets. The mount on the AimPoint PRO utilizes a torque-limiting knob. Simply attach it to a picatinny rail and twist the knob until it clicks 3 times. At this point you have reached the optimum tightness, leaving your optic secured firmly to the rail without causing rail damage. I've removed my PRO several times for cleaning. There are small areas where the finish of the rail is slightly scuffed, but I'd say that's about on par for any mount. I have had zero problems with the mount shifting during use. Also the mount includes a spacer that can be removed. For me, the height seemed perfect with the spacer in place. There are two things I dislike about this mount, the size of the knob and the direction of twist to tighten it down. The size complaint is pretty self explanatory. You can see by the product image that it's a large knob and it sticks out past the optic tube. The direction complaint is probably a personal problem, but when forcing the optic forward in it's groove on the rail, and tightening it down with the knob, it tends to move backward so that the optic isn't seated all the way forward in it's groove. It's managable, but can be tedious. The flip-up lens covers are a nice feature because they keep dust off of the glass while in storage. What I like most about these covers is that the rear one has a clear insert so that you can still see the red dot. The optic can be kept with covers down, yet you can aim without having to flip up the covers. Since the battery life is 3 years, it is recommended that the dot always be left on. With the optics red dot always on, and the ability to use the optic with the covers down, this optic is prefect for an emergency situation where you don't have a lot of time to adjust your gear. The PRO does have several brightness settings to choose from, including settings to be used with nightvision devices. I do not own any nightvision products, but the regular brightness settings cover a wide spectrum, allowing a dim dot at night, and a very bright dot in daylight. The adjustments for windage and elevation are pretty standard, in that they require a coin or flat-head screwdriver to adjust. Each click is 0.5 MOA. The adjustment dials are protected by screw-on caps that contain rubber o-rings, to protect against moisture damage. The battery compartment is protected the same way, and the three caps (windage, elevation, battery) are attached together via a rubber strap, to prevent loss. The AimPoint webpage claims that the PRO is submersible to 150 feet. I doubt that I'll ever test that feature, but it's nice to know that dust can simply be rinsed away. I've had this optic off a few times, and it's been to the range quite a bit. It's been great so far, only requiring minor adjustments at the range after re-mounting (to be expected). It has never lost zero otherwise. AimPoint offers a 10 year warranty on products not used in competition and 2 years for those used in competition, should you need it.. this is my Aimpoint PRO Patrol Rifle Optic reviews
