Simmons Laser Rangefinder Reviews

This rangefinder is my first and although I do not have anything to compare it with, it is pretty amazing. I am not a hunter, and only bought this range finder because of the price, which I will get to later. I live in Hershey PA and the Cabela's in Reading PA is a place I routinely meet my brother when we drop off each others kids to stay with each others family when they have school breaks, as was the case this past Thanksgiving. As me and the kids waited for my routinely late brother, we walked through the store to see if there was anything we could spend a $25.00 gift card my wife won at a local casino. My sport of choice is Golf, and Caleba's does not have much of a selection on golf equipment. (they have nothing!) While passing the hunting section I noticed the Optical section and saw the Simmons LRF 600 was on sale for $99.00 with a mail in rebate. After testing it out in the store, I figured what the heck, if it could pick up deer from 200 yds as it stated, it maybe useful on the course. So, with my $25.00 gift card, and $25.00 for opening a Cabela's credit card and the $25.00 rebate Simmons was offering, I spent a whopping $25.00 for the unit. (At that price I wasn't very concerned if it worked or not on the course, I figured if it didn't work, I would just give to one of my buddies who does hunt) With the Hershey Country Club only 5 minutes from my house, I took it out last week to see how it worked. Jumping on the course was no problem since it was right around 27 degrees with a slight breeze and overcast, so there was nobody out there. I started at one of the greens noticing the pin was approximately 2 yards from the center and walked back into the fairway. Hershey CC, is very well marked with yardage markers that will show center of the green distance. First marker I found was at 38yds, looked through the range finder at the flag that was outstretched because of the breeze, hit the button once, and it read very quickly 36yds. Found next markers at 68yds and 100yds both 1 push of the button and each came back with 2yds off. I moved back to the 150yd marker and although it first picked up the trees behind the green, by the 3rd push (Maybe 5 seconds) I got a reading on the flag of 148yds. Went back to 200yds, and again, after picking up the trees, and pushing the button 5-6 times, it read 199yds. At this time, I'm happy with the unit. However, I've read reviews on other rangefinders and guys are saying it does not pick up the flag at 200yds. I'm a solid 9 handicap, and if your shooting at the pin at 200yds or beyond, quit your day job and get yourself on the PGA tour! For me, I'm happy to hit the center of the green at 200yds or beyond, and you can laser in the lip of the greenside bunker or a tree near the green to get an approximate distance if no yardage markers are available. I want to know where the pin is from 150yd in, and really want to get exact distance from 130yds in, when hitting wedge or 9 iron. This range finder is perfect for that! Again, this is the first range finder I've ever owned, but from my on course tests I think it is going to be a huge help on the course. Not that I was all that bad estimating yardage, but this will just confirm what I'm thinking and give me the confident to hit the selected club. And again, not a hunter and not sure how far out you can shoot a deer, but if I was able to pick up a waving flag at 200yds, I have to believe it will do the same from that distance with a deer. Hope this helps.. this is my Simmons Laser Rangefinder reviews
