I bought this red dot sight to quickly engage targets at close range which is the only real weakness of the Trijicon ACOG. While the RMR could be used as a stand alone sight on a rifle it seems to be at it's best when paired with an ACOG scope either directly mounted on top of it or mounted on a 45 degree offset mount. I've shot the RMR out to 100yds but further distances may become more difficult as the red dot starts to obscure distant targets. The RMR is also versatile as it can be mounted directly to some pistols with no gunsmithing required and other models can be modified to accept the RMR with a qualified gunsmiths assistance. Installation was easy when mounted to the proper mounting bracket which are specific to the ACOG model, picatinny rail adapter, or pistol. I think when used in conjunction with a magnified optic or on a pistol; the RMR is a great sight. If you want to use this as a primary sight on a rifle, I think there are better red dot sight options from Aimpoint and Trijicon also has the SRS reflex sight which I've heard good things about.
